Poem (Unnamed) Based on "The Lovers" (1928) by René Magritte

We choose not to see

Not to glance

Not to peek.

Curiosity—

Merely a word,

An ignored feeling.

look at me.

Protecting us from the truths,

From the lies.

Are there any to hide from?

Ignorance—

Merely a word,

Now a lifestyle.

look at me.

The hoods are tightened,

I cannot breathe,

I cannot see.

“Look at me, look at me.

Will you look at me?”

“No—no. I do not need to.

I do not want to.”
